Africa, with its projected rate of population growth and vast resources, will be the center of economic activity on the planet within a quarter of a century. It will also have the largest number of youths in the world, with estimates of over 1 billion. Many view this as a potential calamity, because of existing high levels of extreme poverty of African nations–450 billion and growing. Others view this demographic trajectory as a source of cheap labor to be exploited.
The truth is: each human being born is a gift to humanity. Each new child is born with a creative mind with the power to discover new scientific and cultural principles of the physical universe in which we live. This potential of creative thought, uniquely endowed in human beings, which no animal or machine can emulate, is what makes human life sacred. Our creative imagination is also the only true source of physical economic wealth. A well-founded functioning economic system would insure that the material needs of each each human being are secured, in order to allow the for the development of their creative mind.
Tragically, this noble quality of the human species is not understood, as demonstrated by society’s passivity in allowing millions of our fellow creative beings to die, unnecessarily, from hunger and poverty.
Humankind knows how to eliminate poverty. China has done it! I know how to do it; by investing massively in infrastructure. Directed long term, low-interest credit to build power plants and high speed railroads, is an elementary step in the process of eliminating poverty and hunger in Africa.
The Western dominated financial system and their so called rules-based order have failed miserably to halt the preventable loss of life. The Global South, led by China and the BRICS has emerged as a new dynamic in our now irreversible multi-polar world. Their commitment to a paradigm of economic development coheres with the development of human life.
